Repair and reline · Melbourne's west, Geelong, BallaratPipe Relining in Melbourne West
Roots and cracks keep wrecking a drain that runs under the lawn, the driveway or the slab. Relining puts a new pipe inside the old one without a trench through the yard.
Old clay drains are made of short pipes pushed together, and every join is a weak point. Ground movement opens them, roots find them, and the drain blocks again a few months after each clean. Replacing the line the traditional way means digging it all up, and that is a hard ask when it runs under a driveway, a patio or an established garden.
Relining fixes the pipe from the inside. A liner coated in resin goes in through an existing inspection point, is pushed along the damaged run and then cured in place. Once it sets, there is a new, continuous pipe inside the old one, sealed at every join and crack, so roots cannot get back in. The yard, the driveway and the slab stay where they are.
Blockage Bros puts the camera down before relining and again once the liner has cured, so you see the before and after on screen for yourself. Not every pipe can be relined, though. A collapsed line cannot hold a liner, and when the camera shows a collapse we say so plainly and price the repair instead, with the footage to show why.
Is relining the right fix for your drain?
- Roots keep coming back after every clean
- The drain runs under the driveway or the house slab
- The camera showed cracked joins along the whole line
- We don't want the garden or paving dug up
- It's been cleared three times this year
How does pipe relining work?
Relining follows the same six steps as every job, with the liner as the final one.
- The camera inspects the line and the locator marks its path and depth
- Roots are cut out and the pipe is jetted clean so the liner bonds
- The run is measured from the access point to the end of the damage
- The liner goes in and cures inside the old pipe
- The camera goes through again so you can see the finished line
When can a pipe not be relined?
When it has collapsed. A liner needs the old pipe to hold its shape while it cures, and a section that has caved in or been crushed flat leaves nothing to line. The camera shows this clearly. In that case the collapsed section is dug out and replaced, and the rest of the run can often still be relined.
Relining under driveways, slabs and big trees
Relining earns its keep in older suburbs, where clay sewer pipes run under concrete laid long after the drain, and where established gums, liquidambars and figs feed on the joins. On the reactive clay soils of the western plains, pipes shift between dry summers and wet winters. A continuous liner has no joins left to open.

Related drain services
- Drain Repairs: A broken section of drain will keep blocking however often it is cleared. Blockage Bros finds the break, digs one small hole in the right spot and replaces it.
- Sewer Repairs: Water coming up the shower or a sewer smell in the yard usually means the drain between the house and the sewer connection is cracked, full of roots or collapsed.
- Stormwater Drain Repairs: When the yard floods, downpipes back up or a pit overflows in rain, the stormwater line is usually blocked, crushed or collapsed somewhere between the roof and the outlet.
- Blocked Drains: Water sitting in the shower, a sink that will not empty or a gully trap spilling over? Blockage Bros clears the drain, then shows you on camera what caused it.
- Blocked Toilets: Toilet will not flush, or the water rises to the rim and sits there? Blockage Bros finds out whether it is the pan or the main line, and clears it.
- Drain Cleaning & Hydro Jetting: Grease, fat, sludge and roots narrow a drain long before it blocks. Blockage Bros cleans the whole pipe with high-pressure water, not just the spot that stopped.
Three priced options. You choose.
Once the camera shows the cause, your quote gives you all three, each with its own price.
Clear it
Cut the roots and jet the line clear, the lowest cost today, but the cracked joins stay open and the roots grow back.
Repair the fault
Dig out and replace the worst section where the locator marks it, leaving the rest of the old line in place.
The permanent solution
Reline the whole run from the existing access points, sealing every join and crack so roots cannot get back in.
Prices depend on what the camera finds. You see all three before any work starts.
Pipe relining: what customers say
Reviews of McQueen Group. Blockage Bros is its drainage crew: same owner, same technicians.
What a great experience! Initially dealt with Ashley to get an emergency booking and she was absolutely fantastic and assured me everything would be okay and the would fix the problem. I had the pleasure of having Harley come out to my place to fix a very smelly blocked drain problem and he was great. Called before arriving and once here, was very transparent with everything he needed to do, reassured me he would be able to fix it and then once he did fix it, made sure it was clean and even turned my fans on to air the crap smell. Will definitely recommend these guys and will 100% use them again if I need to!
Ryan and Michael from McQueen group provided me with thorough and very helpful advice. They did a great job identifying the reason my shower wouldn't drain properly and they fixed the problem efficiently. They were very professional and friendly to deal with. Highly recommended.
Great work by Chris today, really appreciate response to call out on a weekend, and fixed the blockage for us!
Daniel was earlier than scheduled time, he phoned me to advise he was on his way, i appreciate that very much. Attended property for toilet blockage, able to fix promptly and also gave me some tips for moving forward to help avoid blockages, very knowledgeable and assured they'd be back immediately if I experience any further issues. I'm very impressed and would highly recommend. Thanks team
Ryan was fast and efficient at fixing a clogged drainage system. Thanks guys!
Massive shout out to Brandon for attending my rental in kurunjang twice in a matter of afew weeks due to a blockage in the drain. He was friendly, extremely professional and efficient in both visits. Pipe Relining: common questions
Is pipe relining better than digging up the drain?
It depends on the pipe and what sits on top of it. Under a driveway, slab or established garden, relining avoids a trench. If the line has collapsed, digging is the only fix for that section, and the footage shows which applies.
Can tree roots get through a relined pipe?
Roots get into drains through cracked and open joins. The liner covers every join and crack in the relined section, so there is no gap left for them to find.
Do you need to dig to reline a pipe?
Usually not. The liner goes in through existing inspection points or the gully. The written quote says how we get in before any work starts.
How much does pipe relining cost?
It depends on where the damage is and what caused it. The camera shows the cause and the length of pipe involved, and you get three priced options in writing before any work starts.
How do I know the relining worked?
The camera goes back down once the liner has cured, and you see the new line on screen. The run can also be tested to show it holds.
