Blocked drains and toilets · Melbourne's west, Geelong, BallaratBlocked Toilets in Melbourne West
Toilet will not flush, or the water rises to the rim and sits there? Blockage Bros finds out whether it is the pan or the main line, and clears it.
A blocked toilet is either a problem in the pan itself or a sign that the main sewer line is blocked further down. A wad of paper, wipes or something dropped in the bowl usually sits in the pan or the short pipe behind it. If the shower, floor waste or gully trap is also slow, or the toilet gurgles when another fixture drains, the blockage is in the main line and the toilet is just the first place it shows.
Blockage Bros works out which one it is before clearing anything. The camera goes down the line, you see the footage on screen, and the drain is cleared with the jetter or mechanical clearing. It is then tested so we know it holds. If the camera shows roots, a crack or a collapsed section behind the blockage, you get three priced options in writing before any further work starts.
Someone is on call 24/7, including nights and weekends. A toilet that will not flush cannot wait until Monday, least of all when it is the only one in the house. The truck carries the camera, jetter and locator on every job, so the cause is found on the same visit the toilet is cleared, not left for next time.
Signs the blockage is more than the pan
- Water rises to the rim and drains away slowly
- The toilet gurgles when the shower or washing machine drains
- Water comes up in the shower when the toilet is flushed
- A sewer smell in the bathroom that will not go
- The gully trap outside overflows when you flush
- It blocks again a few weeks after the last plunge
Is it the toilet or the main line?
Flush once and watch. If only the toilet is slow and everything else in the house drains normally, the blockage is usually in the pan or just behind it. If other drains back up, gurgle or smell at the same time, the main sewer line is blocked and the toilet is reacting to it.
Plunging may move a pan blockage, but it will not clear a main line, and it can push water back up through the lowest drain in the house, often the shower or floor waste.
What blocks a toilet line?
Wipes are a common cause in newer homes with PVC lines. They do not break down like toilet paper and catch on any join or low spot. In older homes with clay pipes, roots grow into the joins and form a mat that catches paper. A pipe that has sagged or settled can also hold water and waste, so the line slows a little more each time until it stops.
- Wipes, sanitary products and paper towel
- Toys and objects dropped in the pan
- Roots in the main sewer line
- A cracked, sagging or collapsed section of pipe

Related drain services
- Blocked Drains: Water sitting in the shower, a sink that will not empty or a gully trap spilling over? Blockage Bros clears the drain, then shows you on camera what caused it.
- Drain Cleaning & Hydro Jetting: Grease, fat, sludge and roots narrow a drain long before it blocks. Blockage Bros cleans the whole pipe with high-pressure water, not just the spot that stopped.
- Tree Root Removal: Roots are the classic reason an older drain keeps blocking. Blockage Bros cuts them out, jets the line clean and shows you on camera where they got in.
- Drain Maintenance: Some drains block on a schedule: the rental with a big tree out the back, the older home with clay pipes. Blockage Bros keeps them clear with regular jetting and root cutting.
- CCTV Drain Inspection: You cannot fix a drain properly without seeing inside it. Blockage Bros sends a CCTV camera through the whole run and shows you every join on screen.
- Drain Locating: You know the drain is broken, but not where it runs or how deep the fault sits. Blockage Bros finds both from the surface, so any dig is small and in the right spot.
Three priced options. You choose.
Once the camera shows the cause, your quote gives you all three, each with its own price.
Clear it
Clear the pan or the line with the jetter or mechanical clearing: the quickest fix today, but a damaged line behind it will block again.
Repair the fault
Dig at the spot the locator found and replace the cracked or root-filled section of the toilet line.
The permanent solution
Reline or replace the whole sewer run from the house to the connection point, so roots and broken joins stop causing the blockage.
Prices depend on what the camera finds. You see all three before any work starts.
Blocked toilets: what customers say
Reviews of McQueen Group. Blockage Bros is its drainage crew: same owner, same technicians.
What a great experience! Initially dealt with Ashley to get an emergency booking and she was absolutely fantastic and assured me everything would be okay and the would fix the problem. I had the pleasure of having Harley come out to my place to fix a very smelly blocked drain problem and he was great. Called before arriving and once here, was very transparent with everything he needed to do, reassured me he would be able to fix it and then once he did fix it, made sure it was clean and even turned my fans on to air the crap smell. Will definitely recommend these guys and will 100% use them again if I need to!
Ryan and Michael from McQueen group provided me with thorough and very helpful advice. They did a great job identifying the reason my shower wouldn't drain properly and they fixed the problem efficiently. They were very professional and friendly to deal with. Highly recommended.
Great work by Chris today, really appreciate response to call out on a weekend, and fixed the blockage for us!
Daniel was earlier than scheduled time, he phoned me to advise he was on his way, i appreciate that very much. Attended property for toilet blockage, able to fix promptly and also gave me some tips for moving forward to help avoid blockages, very knowledgeable and assured they'd be back immediately if I experience any further issues. I'm very impressed and would highly recommend. Thanks team

Blocked Toilets: common questions
How much does it cost to unblock a toilet?
It depends on where the blockage is and what caused it. The camera shows the cause, and you get three priced options in writing before any work starts.
Should I keep plunging a blocked toilet?
A few firm plunges can shift a blockage in the pan. If it has not moved after that, stop. Repeated plunging or flushing can push sewage up through the shower or floor waste when the main line is the real problem.
Why does my toilet gurgle?
Gurgling usually means air is being forced through water in the line, which points to a partial blockage in the main sewer line. It is often the first sign before the toilet or shower backs up, so it is worth getting the camera down early.
Do you work for landlords and property managers?
Yes. The camera footage shows what caused the blockage, whether it was something flushed or a fault in the pipe, and the written quote with three options refers to that footage.
