Blocked drains and toilets · Melbourne's west, Geelong, BallaratBlocked Drains in Melbourne West
Water sitting in the shower, a sink that will not empty or a gully trap spilling over? Blockage Bros clears the drain, then shows you on camera what caused it.
A blocked drain rarely fixes itself. Hair and soap build up in shower and basin wastes, grease sets hard in kitchen lines, and roots push in through cracked joins in the main sewer line. Blockage Bros clears all of them: sinks, showers, floor wastes, gully traps and the main line from the house to the connection point. Jetting and mechanical clearing scour the pipe clean, rather than punching a hole through the middle.
Clearing the drain is only half the job. Every visit starts with a CCTV drain camera going down the line, so you see the footage on screen on the day and know what you are dealing with. If the camera shows a cracked pipe, roots or a sagging section, the written quote refers to that footage, and you get three priced options before any work starts.
Blockage Bros is the drainage crew from McQueen Group, which has held its ABN since 2010. Drains are all we do, and someone is on call 24/7, including nights and weekends. The truck carries the camera, a high-pressure jetter, a locator and relining gear on every job, so clearing the drain and finding the cause happen on the same visit.
Is my drain blocked?
- The shower or basin takes ages to drain
- The drains gurgle when the washing machine empties
- Water comes up through the shower or floor waste
- The gully trap outside is overflowing
- There is a sewer smell around the house or yard
- It cleared last time but keeps coming back
What causes a blocked drain?
It depends which drain. In a single fixture, like a basin or shower, it is usually hair, soap scum or grease close to the waste. When several fixtures slow down at once, or water comes up the lowest drain in the house, the blockage is further down in the main sewer line.
In older homes with clay pipes, roots are the usual culprit. They find cracked or loose joins and grow into a mat that catches everything. In newer PVC lines it is more often wipes, fat, builder's debris, a shallow fall or ground that has settled and moved the pipe. Reactive clay soil across the western plains shrinks and swells with the seasons, which opens joins over time.
How we clear a blocked drain
The camera goes in first so we know where the blockage is and what it is made of. The drain is then jetted or cleared mechanically, depending on what we found, and tested so we know it holds. With the water gone, the footage shows the cause: roots, a crack, a collapse or simply build-up.

Related drain services
- Blocked Toilets: Toilet will not flush, or the water rises to the rim and sits there? Blockage Bros finds out whether it is the pan or the main line, and clears it.
- Drain Cleaning & Hydro Jetting: Grease, fat, sludge and roots narrow a drain long before it blocks. Blockage Bros cleans the whole pipe with high-pressure water, not just the spot that stopped.
- Tree Root Removal: Roots are the classic reason an older drain keeps blocking. Blockage Bros cuts them out, jets the line clean and shows you on camera where they got in.
- Drain Maintenance: Some drains block on a schedule: the rental with a big tree out the back, the older home with clay pipes. Blockage Bros keeps them clear with regular jetting and root cutting.
- CCTV Drain Inspection: You cannot fix a drain properly without seeing inside it. Blockage Bros sends a CCTV camera through the whole run and shows you every join on screen.
- Drain Locating: You know the drain is broken, but not where it runs or how deep the fault sits. Blockage Bros finds both from the surface, so any dig is small and in the right spot.
Three priced options. You choose.
Once the camera shows the cause, your quote gives you all three, each with its own price.
Clear it
Jet the drain clear and cut out any roots: the lowest cost today, but if the pipe is damaged it will block again.
Repair the fault
Dig at the spot the locator found and replace the damaged section of pipe, then test it.
The permanent solution
Reline or replace the whole run so the joins are sealed and the blockage has nothing to catch on.
Prices depend on what the camera finds. You see all three before any work starts.
Blocked drains: what customers say
Reviews of McQueen Group. Blockage Bros is its drainage crew: same owner, same technicians.
Had Chris and his apprentice come and help with a blocked pipe. At all times Chris was very clear and transparent about what work was required and took the time to show using the camera, explaining why the pipe needed replacing. Thanks guys amazing work.
What a great experience! Initially dealt with Ashley to get an emergency booking and she was absolutely fantastic and assured me everything would be okay and the would fix the problem. I had the pleasure of having Harley come out to my place to fix a very smelly blocked drain problem and he was great. Called before arriving and once here, was very transparent with everything he needed to do, reassured me he would be able to fix it and then once he did fix it, made sure it was clean and even turned my fans on to air the crap smell. Will definitely recommend these guys and will 100% use them again if I need to!
Ryan and Michael from McQueen group provided me with thorough and very helpful advice. They did a great job identifying the reason my shower wouldn't drain properly and they fixed the problem efficiently. They were very professional and friendly to deal with. Highly recommended.
Great work by Chris today, really appreciate response to call out on a weekend, and fixed the blockage for us!
Daniel was earlier than scheduled time, he phoned me to advise he was on his way, i appreciate that very much. Attended property for toilet blockage, able to fix promptly and also gave me some tips for moving forward to help avoid blockages, very knowledgeable and assured they'd be back immediately if I experience any further issues. I'm very impressed and would highly recommend. Thanks team
Ryan was fast and efficient at fixing a clogged drainage system. Thanks guys!
Blocked Drains: common questions
How much does it cost to clear a blocked drain?
It depends on where the blockage is and what caused it. The camera shows the cause, and you get three priced options in writing before any work starts. You choose which one goes ahead.
Is a blocked sewer my responsibility or the water authority's?
The drain from your house to the property connection point is usually the owner's responsibility. The sewer main beyond it belongs to the water authority, such as Greater Western Water, Yarra Valley Water or Barwon Water. If the camera shows the blockage is in their main, we tell you so you can check with them.
Why does my drain keep blocking?
A drain that keeps blocking usually has something letting the problem back in, most often roots through a cracked join or a section of pipe that has dropped and holds water. Clearing it treats the symptom. The footage shows the cause, and a repair or reline deals with it.
Will you need to dig up my yard?
Not to clear it. If the camera finds a damaged section, the locator pinpoints it and its depth from the surface, so any dig is small and in the right place. Relining avoids a trench altogether, unless the line has collapsed.
